Our Story
Giggles for Kids is a family owned business which began in December 2004.
I grew up in Lake Placid, NY which you may know from the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. The European influence is very present in the resort village of unique shops. It is a village where everybody knows your name. The closest mall or mass merchant was an hour away.
After school, travel and marriage we ended up in England for five years having the opportunity to explore much of Europe. It was then that I realized how fortunate I was not to have the convenience of the mass markets. The appreciation of my childhood had impacted my life and ambitions especially after having my own children. My first child was born in London, England and had nothing but specialty toys and they have been passed on to her brother, little sister and friends.
My children also have the appreciation for quality toys and that’s how Giggles for Kids began! After England we lived in Boston for a few years where my son was born with both quality and mass available, but our final move to North Georgia left us with few choices and Mommy saying “I guess we will just have to open our own toy store!” Be careful what you wish for … here we are five years later.
I am sure many neighbors, church friends and reps. all thought I was crazy when we announced our plan on October 15, 2004 ! I met with my reps at my kitchen table with my youngest just 3 months old! They all said, “you will never open by December” what they did not know is never is not in my vocabulary! On December 5th 2004 Giggles for kids opened its doors for business!
In September 2005, we moved the Original store up a few doors to a bigger space and in October 2006 we opened a second location. August 2008 we began Giggles for kid’s online.com!
I could not have done this without Gods blessing, friends and my wonderful husband who not only travels worldwide but keeps my spending in line…
and has spent many evenings putting toys together after bath and bedtime!
